I am a 14-year old boy so I feel RDB Ugly Christmas Sweater, Gift for Christmas Holiday to answer this. I am not really average though. I would be fine with getting a book, graphite for my mechanical pencil or a pair of jeans for Christmas but the average 14-year old would not. I can give a small list of things that I would want and things that my friends (who are what I would call average) would want. Edit: Most items in the list are readily available and realistically obtainable in western countries by middle class families. As pointed out in the comments, my answer is biased towards the average 14-year old in a western civilization.
