Why is any sport popular anywhere? Why are people fans of any particular sports teams? The answer is the exact same for college sports and professional sports, just with the usual added points about extra loyalty to “my school” and all the fan traditions that you get sucked into when you experience it. Oh, and the best rivalries! There are a ton of people here in a ton of places, and a lot of high level organized sports became established at the collegiate level first. The former means there are plenty of markets for it, and the latter gives us the history that led to now, as opposed to a bunch of minor leagues with farm teams being found everywhere (or the multi-tiered “sports club” model more common in Europe).Β Imagine if towns like Logan, UT ignored their college teams! If you’re a football fan in growing up in Alabama, even before you actually attend a college, what’s around you? College football. You probably watch the Saints or Falcons or whoever, but the fun of watching sports – being a sports fan – is at its fullest on Saturdays, so that’s what you really get sucked into. Even if you are in a major market with corresponding major professional teams, the quality/value of the on-field/court/ice product itself is extremely high,Β andΒ the traditions surrounding it all make being a fan of [whatever team] fun and engaging. When the Rams and Chargers moved to LA, the crowd atΒ oneΒ USC game was bigger than the Rams and Chargers crowds combined on the following day. Ticket prices probably aren’t the same,Β but the key to that story is that the people there were USC fans, and it’s most fun to go to games of your favorite team, even if it’s not the highest level. So yeah, people who love sports love sports. College sports have been a part of American sports ever since spectator sports became even a remotely big thing. Don’t over-think it. (Also we get to haveΒ standing rowdy fans with blaring bandsΒ and reinforce theΒ alma mater connection, which feels nice.) As for high school sports, the only places where they’re particularly popular (beyond current student body and the immediately adjacent community) are the small communities where that’s the main sports show in town.

Little Big League. Little kid inherits the Minnesota Twins and pulls them out of a MLB Philadelphia Phillies Hawaiian Shirt to miraculously make a one-game playoff for the wild card against the Mariners. Down one, runner on base, two outs. The Minnesota guy ropes one. Griffey makes a MLB Philadelphia Phillies Hawaiian Shirt at the MLB Philadelphia Phillies Hawaiian Shirt track to send our heroes packing. I’ll always remember it for how unusual an ending it is and how sad it still makes me even though I don’t watch baseball.
The MLB Philadelphia Phillies Hawaiian Shirt has absolutely no supporting historical evidence in any Star Wars lore (EU/Legends, pre- or post-Disney). The MLB Philadelphia Phillies Hawaiian Shirt thing to it is the Resol’nare which only requires “Wear armor,” and doesn’t specify that it can never be removed or that there is any ritual involved in “redeeming” yourself if you do. Death Watch in Legends lore were an extremist splinter group that killed their own members (arguably a violation of the MLB Philadelphia Phillies Hawaiian Shirt, which would render them Dar’manda), other Mandalorians, and even innocent non-combatants by using cowardly and dishonorable tactics (not forbidden for Mandalorians, but worth noting). They were a MLB Philadelphia Phillies Hawaiian Shirt on conquest and ruling through strength/power, and so attracted a sizable following though still a minority. The Journeyman Protectors which later became the True Mandalorians included Jaster Mereel and Jango Fett, and they followed the Resol’nare in an absolute manner while doing so honorably, protecting the innocent, and serving Mandalore. They were wiped out after Death Watch framed them and got them trapped in a Jedi sting operation which saw all of them but Jango Fett killed by Jedi on Galidraan. This is what led Dooku to select him for the clone template (and if Filoni had any spine to reinstate actual Mandalorian lore, Galidraan would’ve been one of the “Tales of the Jedi” episodes.) In post-Disney (current) Canon, Death Watch was a far smaller, far more dishonorable faction that frequently used terrorism and the killing of civilians in order to preach a fascistic message similar to the EU DW’s “the strong rightfully rule the weak.” They also killed their own members (Dar’manda) and ultimately their over importance on ruling by strength led to them being usurped by Maul, an Aruetii (outsider, non Mandalorian) who had no place leading Mandalorians, and those who followed him are traitors to their own kind (another Resol’nare violation). The “Children of the Watch” are descendants of this group, and they ostensibly survived by hiding while Mandalore was destroyed. My money is on the Armorer being Rook Kast, which would explain the helmet spikes andΒ her insistence on never showing her face, and I hope to see her outed for being the traitor that she was.
