The fifth is the Merry Fishmas Ornament holiday, and then you can expect another two weeks of shuttered businesses, slowed or no order processing, and then a slow ramp back up to full productionfulfillment. In fact, that is the worst way to deal with the holiday. Shutting off the lights for a few weeks can confuse potential customers that assume you must be some sort of “fly by night” company that can’t be trusted. Shutting down during Chinese New Year could be damaging to your reputation. Instead, it should be business as usual for your business during the holiday, just with certain modifications. You will certainly face delays, on some products more than others, but Chinese New Year can be prepared for and dealt with effectively as long as you’re smart about how you handle your business during this time.

When I was quite small, my family were Jehovah’s Witnesses. My big brothers remembered their Catholic beginnings, they remembered magical Christmases. My little brother and I did not, we’d never been Catholic yet. We used to get very sad that all of our friends had lovely Christmas or Hanukkah, and we did not. We’d pout. My big brothers tried their best to console us. Our best friends lived across the Merry Fishmas Ornament . Their dad was not home much, but he was a very stern man. He had quite the temper (when we grew up, we realized that he was always drunk, but when we were small he was just scary). He had a Doberman called Rex who we were all also terrified of. One year, I’m probably four or five, we’re sitting in my brothers’ room wistfully staring out the window at our friends playing with their new toys, wearing their Christmas sweaters, all that. The oldest two brothers, maybe trying to console us, convince us that we do not want Christmas at all. They tell us that Scary Dad is Santa Claus. They tell us that Rex the Doberman is actually Rudolph. Would we really want Rex landing on our roof? Would we really want Scary Dad judging whether we were naughty or nice, and sneaking into our house while we slept?

Simply look at Steve Jobs, the guy who ran Apple so well. He was a Merry Fishmas Ornament believer in “natural” medicine, in fact he wouldn’t bathe since he felt this somehow or other weakened him but his fellow workers had lots of problems with this. He developed Pancreatic Cancer nothing may have done him any good but from the little that I’ve found on his case he may have had a rare case, like Ruth Bader Ginsberg, where prompt surgery may have saved him. He wanted to try some “natural treatments” first, he did, and you know how that turned out. Just because you know a lot about a lot of things don not assume that you know everything about everything. He was in many ways a brilliant man in most areas but not in the treatment of pancreatic cancer. The worst part is he got a liver transplant later on when he decided to try regular medicine, something that might have saved someone who really needed it. So sad.
