Probably a naive question… but in all of this, why cling to the Henry Ruggs Las Vegas Raiders Wearing All For You Crew Shirt pronouns at all? I would think it makes more sense to try and remove blind stereotypes at this impersonal level (pronouns) associated with being one gender or the Henry Ruggs Las Vegas Raiders Wearing All For You Crew Shirt having an effect on how you act or how you should be referred to or your abilities etc. Like, all people may be physically/anatomically male or female… like they may be tall/short, wide/skinny, black/white, any physical characteristics. But let’s call them all the same human pronouns (they/them) and then shift “masculinity” or “feminity” over to descriptive personality traits, like being athletic, or street smart, or funny, or a nick-name, or being able to speak a certain language(s) or being skilled at a certain thing(s). Bringing gender affiliation back in as a base characteristic that you need to know in order to address the person even as a pronoun just seems to add work and confusion. In other words, it seems overcomplicated (to me I guess) to continue to use “she/her” and “he/him” as pronouns, when in most cases we are using pronouns in the place of a name or other term exactly because we don’t know enough about the person or are looking for shorthand for some reason speaking or writing. If I don’t know much about the person or am looking for shorthand, why does it matter if I also label their gender affiliation correctly, when we could just have pronouns that mean “human”, or “person” or “dude” or “buddy”… I want to be able to talk to a person I don’t know well without having to know which gender they affiliate with, I just know they are a person and an equal in a given situation.
