As Texas Tech gears up to celebrate a century of Red Raiders football, the program is turning back the clock in style. In honor of its 100th anniversary, Texas Tech will unveil a set of throwback-inspired uniforms during its Homecoming game against Kansas on October 11—a tribute that bridges eras and unites generations of fans.

Designed in partnership with adidas, the uniforms are a carefully curated homage to Tech’s football legacy, drawing visual inspiration from nearly every decade since the program’s inception in 1925. At the center of the black jerseys is a striking red “Tech” wordmark—directly lifted from the original 1925 uniforms worn by the first Red Raiders squad.

The black helmets offer another nod to the early days of the program, featuring a simplified version of the iconic Double “T” logo first introduced in 1926. This minimalist emblem also appears subtly on the sleeves, set within a stripe design inspired by the bold vertical elements of the 1930 uniforms—an era when few teams even displayed logos.

Adding to the vintage flair are canvas-colored block numbers and matching pants adorned with a red-and-black side stripe. That striping pattern draws inspiration from the breast collar of The Masked Rider’s horse—one of the most cherished symbols in Texas Tech tradition—first introduced in the 1960s.

But it’s the finer details that truly make this anniversary set feel special. A gold tab on the back collar—a rare feature in college football—adds a premium touch, reminiscent of the gold accents seen in Nike’s elite-level basketball uniforms. Below the collar, laser-perforated numbers “1925” and “2025” flank either side of the Double “T,” a subtle yet powerful reminder of how far the program has come.

Perhaps the most nostalgic element lies in the four red star decals on the front of the helmet. These stars were originally awarded by legendary head coach Jim Carlen between 1970 and 1974 as a symbol of achievement and effort. While Texas Tech’s official release mistakenly dates the tradition to 1969, it’s a meaningful tribute nonetheless—and marks the first time these stars will appear on the team’s black helmets, as the Red Raiders wore only white helmets during Carlen’s tenure.

Texas Tech’s 100th anniversary uniform isn’t just a uniform—it’s a walking archive, a wearable timeline of grit, pride, and Red Raider resilience. When the team takes the field on October 11, they’ll do so not only representing a century of football but wearing it—boldly, proudly, and in true Texas Tech fashion.
