Sometimes, it only takes a small gesture to make a lasting impact. For South Carolina sophomore MiLaysia Fulwiley, one of the rising stars in women’s college basketball, that moment came in the form of a T-shirt—worn by none other than NBA icon Steph Curry.
Before the Golden State Warriors’ 117–114 victory over the Toronto Raptors on Thursday night, Curry strolled into Chase Center wearing a shirt emblazoned with Fulwiley’s name and likeness. It wasn’t just a fashion statement—it was a moment of recognition from one of the game’s greats to one of its brightest young stars.
Fulwiley, scrolling through social media like any 19-year-old might, stumbled upon the image—and was nearly moved to tears.
“It’s a blessing, man. When I saw it, I couldn’t really say nothing, but I almost cried, honestly,” she told Fox 57. “Just seeing how I grew up and where I come from—nobody from where I come from, that would ever happen to them. I’m just proud of myself. Just keep going, trust in the process, and just lock in, because other great people will be on notice, like Steph.”
Curry’s tribute wasn’t random. The two share a deeper connection through his brand. In March of last year, Fulwiley became the first collegiate athlete to sign a multi-year NIL deal with the Curry Brand—cementing her place not only as a future WNBA prospect, but as a key ambassador of the game’s evolution.
The recognition couldn’t have come at a better time. Fulwiley followed up the moment with a dominant performance, scoring 15 points and dishing out five assists in just 19 minutes during South Carolina’s 108–48 dismantling of No. 16 seed Tennessee Tech in the NCAA tournament.
As Curry continues to recover from a pelvic contusion suffered in the same game against Toronto, his on-court presence might be on pause—but off the court, he’s proving just as influential. And you can bet, as the NCAA Women’s Tournament heats up, the two-time MVP will be watching Fulwiley and the Gamecocks closely.
