LINCOLN, Neb. — In front of a sold-out crowd inside the Bob Devaney Sports Center—newly renamed John Cook Arena—Nebraska volleyball delivered its final preseason tune-up in signature style: with intensity, purpose, and plenty of flair.
Saturday’s annual Red-White Scrimmage gave fans their first true taste of the 2025 Huskers—and not just on the court. From a Big Ten championship banner reveal to expanded concessions and the debut of alcohol sales at home matches, it was a full-sensory introduction to a season full of expectations.
The Red squad took the victory in convincing fashion, sweeping the first three sets (25–23, 25–23, 25–22) before the White team responded with a 25–17 win in a bonus fourth set.
But for head coach Dani Busboom Kelly, the results were secondary to something far more important: the players’ growth, the chemistry, and the readiness of one Rebekah Allick—who dominated on both ends of the net and earned high praise post-match.
“I thought she was the player of the game,” Busboom Kelly said.
One to Watch: Rebekah Allick Shines
Middle blocker Rebekah Allick was a force. She led all players with 16 kills, added five blocks, and remained a consistent presence no matter what jersey she wore—Red or White. In fact, she was the only player to appear on the winning side of every set.
Between sets, Allick was named the team’s Lifter of the Year, earning a brief but memorable moment with Director of Olympic Sports Performance Brian Kmitta.
With big shoes to fill and a bigger season ahead, Allick’s poise and production are exactly what Nebraska needs from a veteran anchor.

Big Ten Glory, Banner Raised
Between the second and third sets, the Huskers unveiled their newest addition to the rafters—a banner commemorating their back-to-back Big Ten championships. Nebraska shared the 2024 title with Penn State, building on its 2023 conference crown.
It’s the program’s first repeat Big Ten title since 2016–17, and the first time Nebraska has won 19 Big Ten matches in back-to-back seasons.
“We talk about legacy,” said Busboom Kelly. “That banner is part of it, but we’re not done.”
New Season, New Snacks: Concessions Get a Makeover
This season also marks the arrival of Aramark as the Huskers’ new concessions provider—and fans got their first real look (and taste) during the scrimmage.
Returning staples like Valentino’s pizza and Runza remain, but fans also noticed upgraded combos, larger souvenir offerings, and—yes—for the first time at a Husker volleyball match (outside Volleyball Day in Nebraska): beer.
A combo with two Red Dogs and a Michelob Ultra clocked in at $19.50, slightly higher than at Memorial Stadium. Souvenir popcorn replaced Runza in some value meals, offering a collectible touch.
Notable Prices at the Devaney Center:
- Runza – $7
- Valentino’s Pizza – $7
- Red Dog – $3.75
- Souvenir Popcorn – $12
- Nachos + Cheese – $6.50
- Souvenir Soda – $6.50
- Beer Combo (2 Red Dogs + Michelob Ultra) – $19.50
Whether fans were there for the volleyball or the victory pretzel, the upgrades were noticeable—and a nod to the sport’s growing stature.
Final Thoughts
Saturday’s scrimmage wasn’t just a warm-up. It was a statement.
Nebraska volleyball, entering the season as a two-time defending conference champion, looked sharp, confident, and focused. The team’s depth was on display, from young stars like Harper Murray and Virginia Adriano to veteran leaders like Allick and Reilly.
More importantly, the culture that’s defined the program for decades feels intact, now infused with new energy under Busboom Kelly’s leadership.
With the season opener on the horizon, Nebraska has checked every preseason box—from game-readiness to fan engagement—and looks ready to row deeper into what promises to be another championship chase.
