Pacman’s Pick: Deion Sanders or WVU in November’s Showdown?

West Virginia fans are buzzing about the return of Rich Rodriguez, the coach who once brought Mountaineer football to national prominence. But if anyone’s more thrilled than the WVU faithful, it’s former Mountaineer star Adam “Pacman” Jones—and he’s not shy about saying so.

Over the past few months, Jones has been vocal about the deep bond he shares with Rodriguez, crediting him not only with shaping his career but also with guiding his life off the field.

“I came from the inner city in Atlanta,” Jones shared on his show Politely Raw. “You need a guy. And I know a lot of coaches, but this is one of them right here. If you want your life changed, and you think you’re a dog, and you’ve got any ability or will to work hard—you might want to go and talk to Rich Rod. He changed my life. He might could change yours.”

Torn Between Two Mentors

There’s a twist, though. Jones also shares a special connection with Colorado head coach Deion Sanders, a man he openly calls a father figure.

Sanders feels the same. Speaking at the Super Bowl two years ago, “Coach Prime” teared up when talking about their relationship:
“This is my son right here. We met in a hotel in Atlanta when he was going through it, and we haven’t parted since. I love him to life. When it comes to him, I’m soft. This is my guy.”

That makes November 8, when Sanders’ Buffaloes travel to Morgantown to face WVU, a complicated date on Jones’ calendar—at least on paper.

No Doubt on Game Day

When Rodriguez joined Jones’ show this week, co-host Evan Rosenblum pressed Pacman on which sideline he’ll be supporting in the high-profile clash.

Jones didn’t hesitate.

“It’s two of my dads. It’s Rich and Deion,” he said with a grin. “But f*** Colorado on that day. What you talking about? I’m going to be on West Virginia’s sideline with a big a** WVU shirt on, my boy. That ain’t even a question.”

Family Ties, Mountaineer Pride

For Jones, it’s more than football. His loyalty to West Virginia runs deep, forged during his years in Morgantown and reinforced by the man who first believed in him—Rich Rodriguez.

So when the Mountaineers and Buffaloes meet in early November, Pacman Jones will watch two of the most influential figures in his life battle it out. But there’s no doubt where his heart lies.

On that night, he’ll be all Mountaineer.
