This Valentine’s Day weekend, fans inside Assembly Hall will trade roses for stripes. When Indiana hosts UCLA on Friday night (8 p.m. ET, FOX), the Hoosiers are reviving one of their most beloved gameday traditions: the stripe out.
For the uninitiated, a stripe out transforms the crowd into a living homage to IU’s iconic candy-stripe warmup pants. Fans are assigned red or white by seating section, creating alternating stripes of color throughout the arena. The tradition debuted in 2008 during a marquee matchup against Michigan State and has since resurfaced for select high-profile games, including last season’s clash with Kansas.
To ensure full participation, Indiana has published seating guidance so fans can check in advance whether they should wear red or white. Student fans won’t have to worry—red and white T-shirts will be waiting on their seats inside the student section, pre-arranged according to the stripe out seating map.
This year’s stripe out is presented by Alumni Hall, IU’s official sponsor for the event. In addition to helping coordinate the look inside Assembly Hall, Alumni Hall has released a special collection of stripe out T-shirts available online, through its app, or at its store on Kirkwood Avenue.
Alumni Hall has long been a go-to destination for Hoosier fans, offering officially licensed IU gear from brands like Adidas, Champion, Columbia, Onward Reserve, and ’47. The store also carries accessories, gifts, and apparel for all ages, along with everyday discounts: 10% off for IU students, faculty, first responders, and military (with valid ID). Plus, shoppers can earn $10 rewards for every $150 spent through the Hall Pass Rewards Program.
With UCLA in town and the Assembly Hall crowd set to turn into a sea of red and white, the atmosphere promises to be electric. For Indiana, it’s more than just a game—it’s a celebration of tradition, identity, and Hoosier pride on full display.
