In McLennan County, Texas, the excitement is palpable as both the Baylor Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams prepare for another March Madness journey. For the campus community, the tournament is more than just basketball — it’s a celebration of resilience, tradition, and school pride.
This season has been anything but easy. Injuries tested both squads, and consistency at times proved elusive. Yet, despite the challenges, the Bears are once again dancing. The Baylor Women’s team extends its incredible streak with a 21st consecutive tournament appearance, while the Men’s team locks in its 10th berth in the last 11 seasons, a run highlighted by their unforgettable 2021 National Championship.
For Baylor students, the belief in their teams is unwavering.
“My biased opinion? They’re gonna go far,” said Celestte Arvizu, a student who admits her confidence in Baylor basketball never wavers.
Classmate Jackson Cooper echoed her sentiment, adding, “The women are definitely going to do pretty good. For the men, it hasn’t always shown in the regular season, but I have hope.”
That hope is fueled in part by the energy inside the newly built Foster Pavilion, where the Baylor Bear Pit — the program’s spirited student section — brings unmatched intensity.
“We lead the chants, we set up the section, we give that energy to the players,” said Benjamin Jacob, a lifelong Baylor fan who now proudly stands courtside as part of the Bear Pit crew.
For students like Arvizu, that energy is the secret ingredient to Baylor’s success:
“Here at Baylor, we depend on each other — and that’s exactly the energy we give to our players.”
As the Bears head into March Madness, one thing is clear: Baylor Nation is ready to roar.
