Before they clash on the diamond in one of baseball’s fiercest rivalries, the Houston Astros and Texas Rangers will stand together for a cause far bigger than baseball.

On Friday night at Daikin Park, during batting practice for the series opener, both teams will wear special “Together for Texas” shirts bearing the logos of each club — a unified show of support for those devastated by the recent Texas Hill Country floods.

The flooding, which struck over Fourth of July weekend, claimed more than 100 lives statewide, including 96 in Kerr County alone. Communities across the region are now facing the long road to recovery.

The Astros have pledged $1 million toward immediate relief efforts and long-term youth initiatives in the area. Proceeds from the 50/50 raffle during five of the six games in their current homestand will also benefit the Astros’ Central Texas Relief Fund, with fans encouraged to donate through the Astros Foundation.

The Rangers have matched that commitment, pledging $1 million of their own to aid recovery efforts.

They’re not alone. Teams from across Texas’ pro sports landscape have stepped up: the Houston Rockets, San Antonio Spurs, and Dallas Mavericks jointly donated $2 million; the Houston Texans and Dallas Cowboys contributed $1.5 million; and soccer clubs Houston Dynamo, Houston Dash, Austin FC, and FC Dallas combined for $500,000.

For one night, the Astros and Rangers won’t just be playing for standings — they’ll be playing for Texas.
