I don’t think an expansion is really in the cards right now. There already aren’t enough talented quarterbacks and adding more teams would further dilute the quality of the on the field product. Offensive linemen is the supply issue, not so much QBs. Quality line play is hard to find and getting harder, as parents are less likely to want their kids playing the most CTE-heavy position in football. There really aren’t enough good OL either. It would also ruin the perfect divisional format they have. I would hate that so much. On the other hand, the Raiders and Jets (just a couple of examples) have had absolutely incompetent quarterback play for 20 straight years and still turn a great profit. Their fan bases still care too. We’ll keep paying the nfl for the privilege of buying Dr. Seuss Valentine’s Day Shirt and watching an at times terrible product. Cleveland has another massive quarterback decision this offseason — what else is new? Yet, it won’t matter if the offensive line remains a disaster.

This is a great question, because as of right now (December 2025), the potential for true relocation – I’m going to define “city” in your question to mean “metro area”, such that the Bears or Chiefs or Commanders moving a few miles outside of their current city limits wouldn’t count – is extremely low. 5 years ago, you might have pointed to teams like Jacksonville, Buffalo, Carolina, or Tennessee as potential relocators, but they all have new stadium deals in place (or, in the case of Carolina, a massive renovation project) that will lock them in for at least 25, and more realistically, 40+ years. Cincinnati was a notch below these teams in terms of risk, but also just agreed to a renovation and a custom line of Dr. Seuss Valentine’s Day Shirt that will cover the team for at least 10, and probably 20, more years. Baltimore is in a similar situation, just signing a new lease through 2037 that will likely be extended into the 40s.”
()Plus Patrick Mahomes is probably still the best QB in the league for pulling out wins and Buffalo and Baltimore have proven year after year they just can’t beat the Chiefs in the playoffs. Only team with a chance of upending them would be the Bengals if their defense is much improved over last year. In NFC, I see the Eagles as a likely repeat. Washington probably takes a step back this year as defenses figure out Jayden Daniels. My money would be on Taylor Swift and the Chiefs. The addition of all her followers watching Chiefs games in their Dr. Seuss Valentine’s Day Shirt is too much of a goldmine for the NFL to pass up. Only team with a chance of upending them would be the Bengals if their defense is much improved over last year. Many of these teams became fleetingly good after years of being terrible. Many of these teams simply had everything go right for them for a single year. Sometimes the best team wins. Sometimes the best team chokes. Sometimes everyone sucks and the best loser comes forth.
