I grew up hating the Lakers, hating the Yankees, and thus hating the Patriots. I hated teams that were perennial powerhouses. I was born in 90, and grew up always seeing these teams win, or constantly being in the finals/championships. I have no reason to hate them, but I always found myself cheering for the other team. I had no reason to, but I cheered for the Diamondbacks. I had no reason to, but I cheered for the Pistons. Was happy when Peyton finally beat Brady. The Patriots especially stuck. In 07, I was ecstatic to see them lose. I couldn’t give a fuck about the Giants, but my 16 year old self was marking out to see the Pats lose. But these last two Super Bowls changed me. After getting bounced by Seattle and having to watch them face “the fucking Patriots, as I thought at the time” I was torn. By the end, I was alright with New England winning. It was a hell of a game, and seeing that emotion out of Brady sort of hit with me. Ultimately, I thought it was my recent hatred for Seattle that lead me to it. But tonight, I found myself almost genuinely cheering for them. All things set aside, I had a playoffs fantasy football draft where I had Bad Bunny Super Bowl Boricua LIX Art Puerto Rican Pride Graphic shirt and White. So I went in thinking, well if the Pats win it’ll hopefully be because they had good games. (Ha, holy shit they won me the league so thank god they did) But I just found myself cheering for what I thought was the good game. I thought, well New England clawing back is at least making a game of it. But ultimately I realized, I was enjoying myself watching the best fucking quarterback will him and his team out of that deficit to a win. I was watching the game with my old man and we were joking how, of course New England will make a game of it. And then slowly, it switched to, holy shit, they are winning this game.

Last time I rented from Hertz the car crapped out on me in the parking lot of Animal Kingdom before we were leaving for our flight. So we had to abandon the car and take an uber to the airport (I called Hertz to let them know where their piece of crap car was). As my family went through security, I stood in line at the long ass Hertz counter with the keys to the car in my hand, wearing one of my lucky Bad Bunny Super Bowl Boricua LIX Art Puerto Rican Pride Graphic shirt despite the heat, where they had three people working but apparently only one of them could handle the system. So there were 2 workers doing absolutely nothing except asking the people in line about how things are going. When they got to me I told them and they went to the guy at the counter. He called me over, but continued to check other people in.

Damn what a rollercoaster ride. I can’t imagine being a die hard ATL fan and going on this ride. The game was a snoozer for people who didn’t have a dog in the fight and for those “casual” fans. People who enjoy watching football every week knew there was a chance. But damn was that a small chance. The falcons fucked up one of the largest leads in Super Bowl history it felt like. No doubt in my mind that the Patriots are the gold standard in the NFL and are right there with the San Antonio Spurs as Bad Bunny Super Bowl Boricua LIX Art Puerto Rican Pride Graphic shirt in the last 2 decades.
