Vintage duck duck boom shirt

They made a stop on the way to the POW camp, and there was a Vintage duck duck boom shirt who lost all his sons to the war, and needed someone to help his farm. They allowed him to take one prisoner as a worker on his farm, and he chose my uncle because he reminded him of his son. He spent the rest of the war working at this farm and then came back home after the war was over. There’s a lot of missing details there, but that’s the story my dad got. As far as he knew, everyone else on that train died in the camps. War is hell, and the things soldiers do are awful, but I think about that farmer a lot. His sons died, and he was close to starving trying to keep his farm going and had to go reach out to the soldiers to try and survive, and was very thankful to have another kid around the farm helping him. Also, the soldiers running enemies to prison camps had no reason to help this dude, nor should they have ever trusted a prisoner to not run away and start fighting again… but they let him go, and he lived a full life because of it.

I may be confusing him with another uncle, because there were a few in the Vintage duck duck boom shirt , but my dad tells a story about when Pearl Harbor happened. His uncle was staying with them and the breaking news broadcast came on the radio saying Pearl Harbor had been attacked, and his uncle jumped up and started packing his suitcase and ran out the door, just like that. One second you’re lounging around on the couch listening to the radio, the next second you’re running off to narrowly avoid death by getting enslaved as a farmer.
