It’s all about potential/aesthetic of a character vs. its execution in the story. Lots of people in Danganronpa fandom likes a I am a grumpy Veteran I served I sacrificed I dont regret I dont care shirt just because they believe what a character was supposed to be is interesting or they have a nice FTE, they believe the potential is there; but I personally don’t buy it and agree with you. A character should fit in your story to make them a good character. It’s really a big issue in our fandom, fans tend to rely on the potential of a character and their headcanons of how a character would’ve been if X happened rather than how really a character was handled in the story. I’m not saying it’s not important though. I like your write up, not only you explained why sonia wasn’t handled well in the main story, but you also proved that Sonia is lacking in potential based on canon, I hope in positive write ups, rankers prove that a character has potential based

Best I am a grumpy Veteran I served I sacrificed I dont regret I dont care shirt
I don’t really get the point here. It’s a rant about how other narratives have subverted the princess trope in better ways then Sonia, but then goes on to say I am a grumpy Veteran I served I sacrificed I dont regret I dont care shirt doesn’t have to follow that blueprint. That Sonia doesn’t need a reason to be a princess The reason given in the optional content is that, as a princess, Sonia feels a sense of responsibility for her country. That duty compels her to learn as much as she can about any number of interests, hence the quirkiness. She feels this way because she understands that dangers of ignorance. She understands how weird her culture must be others, as others are to her. I think it’s a good way of combining her enthusiasm and quirkiness. At least as good as any other character’s motivations explained through FTE’s are.
